The Great Outdoors
In His Name experienced its first overnight camping experience. On October 28-29th Jon Huebner and Jack Bentley took six boys from the Melrose and Harrison Square apartment communities on an overnight camping trip. Staying at the campground at the Georgia Baptist Conference Center in Toccoa, the boys, ages ten to sixteen, were able to experience all the joys that camping provides. After setting up camp, the boys roasted hot dogs around a campfire followed by a dessert of s’mores. That night Jack led the boys in a campfire devotional that ended with a late night hike with a full view of the starry sky. It was a cool night, but the boys slept warmly in their sleeping bags. Saturday morning started early with hot chocolate and a good breakfast. They would then spend the rest of the day fishing and hiking through the woods. It was an exciting time for the boys-most of whom had never been camping before. It was also a chance for the leaders to bond with the boys and answer questions about faith and God. Upon returning to Gainesville, they kept talking about the trip and are looking forward to the next one.
